The Town
Folgarida is a medium sized modern resort in the
middle of a sweet smelling pine forest only 9
kilometres from Madonna di Campiglio (you can ski
between the all the ski areas with ease). It’s a
truly wonderful location for those who love winter
sports and want to enjoy a peaceful and relaxing
holiday with family and friends in the mountains.

The picturesque image of Lower Folgarida |
|
Folgarida town is spilt into two sections (upper and
lower). The majority of shops, restaurants and
other facilities (cinema, etc) are located in lower
Folgarida. Our hotels are in lower Folgarida
at an altitude of 1,300m just a few minutes stroll
from the main gondola in the town plaza.
As a modern resort it
has been possible to layout the lifts and the
village in a manner that blends seamlessly with the
local forested environment - there are no buildings
in Folgarida taller than the surrounding trees.
You will not find the stark, windswept and bleak
areas sometimes found in other ski areas anywhere in
the Dolomites. If you are seeking a peaceful
and enjoyable holiday with truly staggering scenery
this is the place to be.

Whilst most people will become accustomed to
stunning mountain scenes, the views over the snow
covered Dolomites is, by any standards, one of the
greatest views available anywhere. The snow
covered needle-like structures glistening in the
afternoon sun is a memory to savour - don't forget
your camera.

The Après Ski
It seems that almost the whole village descends on
the famous Eta Beta Bar which is built literally underneath the end of the piste
in the town square. So, when in Rome (or Folgarida) do as they do? Your
hosts at the Eta Beta, Stefano and Ricky, will not only offer you some Italian
wine (from local vineyards) but may also even serenade you whilst you regale us
with tales of your day's adventures. If you are looking for some “boom
boom” techno dance music until “very” late, you will find that the nightclubs
are “very” loud and “very” crowded (and sweaty), but of course (this is Italy
after all) there is also a plethora of high quality restaurants offering
international and local delicacies. Basically whatever you are looking for,
you’ll find it in Folgarida.
The
Skiing (Download Piste Map)
360km of perfectly linked pistes make this an
excellent choice for the ski enthusiast.

The Folgarida mid-station (at the top of the
main cable car from the town) |
 |
Only a few minutes stroll from the hotel you will
find the main gondola which speeds you many
thousands of feet upwards towards the mid-station.
There are many cafes, restaurants, ski deposits and
also the ski school at the mid station - half way up
the mountain - where the snow is always good for
beginners. Complete beginners are normally
able to move up to the top of the mountains by mid
week where you'll find some very gentle green runs
leading all the way back to the ski school.
For intermediates skiers there are many, many blues
and reds heading off in all directions. If you
are an advanced skier the off-piste is virtually
limitless. Oh yes, if you're up for it, there is a
Black run down to Marilleva which is over 60 degrees
in places. Basically there is something for all
standards here in one of the largest ski areas in
Italy.
After a hard day’s skiing (?) you can decide to
leave your skis and boots at the mid-station (small
charge) and take the gondola back down to the town
or take one of the runs down – both end right in the
town centre. There are two main runs down to
the town – The adrenaline pumping black run knows as
Nera Folgarida which, with
drops of over 60 degrees, will certainly get you
down quickly. Or you can take the much easier
and more relaxing blue run known as
Azzurra which winds it’s way
gently down through the forests.
Top
Tip from the local ski instructors – if you leave
plenty of time for the run down you will have time
to cut right half way down
Azzurra on to an other
blue run (Casina) to a wonderful small wooden
mountain “shack” near the end of
Casina. Here they will
serve you a small hot mulled wine before you
continue back down
Azzurra
(it’s meant to be a holiday after all).
